Groups
The project "Mpowerment" has several components all to promote discussion of issues affecting the gay Latino community. These activities are developed either at our facilities or doing community work, being part of an informative session or watching a movie. The two mayor groups are Latinos D and Punto de Encuentro. Latino D is the working group in charge of organizing onsite events and outreach activities. Punto de Encuentro is a weekly gathering conversation.
Latinos D
"Latinos D" is the working group and the decision maker of Mpowerment. This group is made up of young/adults gay and bisexual Latino males living in New York. This is the group that develops the community outreach, social events, educational and recreational activities. By doing so, Latinos D aims to encourage their participants to have a safe space to talk about their identity and the different expressions of their sexuality in a real and positive way.
Punto de Encuentro
"PUNTO DE ENCUENTRO" is such an informal gathering where you can meet new people and share experiences on relationships, sex and eroticization improve your sexual health, all in a safe, enjoyable and fun environment.
Dynamics of Punto de Encuentro:
The meetings will be conducted in Spanish.
Meetings are for youth/adults Latino male (25 to 35 years). No prior registration is required.
The meetings will be held Wednesday from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at 24 W 25th Street, 10th Floor, Manhattan.
In each session, participants will be offered refreshments and Metrocards for transportation ($ 4.00). There are only 12 metrocards available per session.
Members who refer new participants will receive a $20 gift card for each new participant (to receive this incentive, the recruiter must have participated in at least one of the meetings)
